EV/EBITDA calculation happens by dividing Enterprise Value (EV) by Earnings before Interest Tax Depreciation & Amortization (EBITDA). Enterprise multiple is a popular valuation metric that compares the firm (including its debt) to its EBITDA (substitute for free cash flow) for the financial year.

Although EV/EBITDA is harder to measure that the P/E ratio, the fact that it is unaffected by a company’s capital structure makes it better multiple. All three EV multiples using these income measures perform reasonably well in explaining market valuations.
