After many years of experience in the industry, Evinrude has perfected its outboard design to provide superior performance, outstanding fuel efficiency, and the latest technology with every product. The parent company of the Evinrude brand says it will cease production of outboard engines and instead focus on its boat brands and other innovative marine products. “This business segment had already been facing some challenges, and the impact from the current context has forced our hand,” said José Boisjoli, President and CEO of BRP. In a letter to state officials — in accordance with Wisconsin Business Closing and Mass Layoff Law — BRP said it would eliminate a total of 387 positions in Sturtevant, Wis., including employees currently on furlough. Evinrude and Johnson brand names are now owned by Bombardier and are being produced as Bombardier Recreational Products. Evinrudes are the technology motors (Ficht and 4 strokes) and Johnsons are traditional 2 stroke carb motors.

Parts don't seem to be a problem. How old of a motor are you looking at?

I’ve had some Evinrudes go out of business! Not me. I had a 15 Evy for 30 years that we beat the crap out of running through mud during the duck season, cold water season, etc. Always started on the second pull when cold, first when warm. Great motor. Also had a 110 oil injected Evy for 33 years. Always started on first try in the spring.

BRP has re-oriented its marine business by focusing on the growth of its boat brands with new technology and innovative marine products. We will discontinue production of Evinrude E-TEC and E-TEC I can’t believe it but it appears that Evinrude is no longer making outboard motors and their long legacy is done.
